The Chinese-language work, called "Land of Memories," begins with these lines:

Five of the 45 finalists in this year’s Pulitzer Prizes for journalism disclosed using AI in the process of researching, reporting, or telling their submissions. Is that bad? Inevitable?

How about the Polk Awards that recognizes “not the news organizations or publishers, but investigative reporters themselves.”? 
there’s always the question of whether awarding work produced with the help of #Artificial Intelligence will be giving the technology more credit than is due. For awards that emphasize the human sacrifice behind reporting, this’ll be a challenge they face.

That's right it was guided by prompts. Plus, consider trials & errors, & the final determination of what should be submitted. It's all by that person. Likewise, If I use image editing software, make use of the functions, that doesn't mean the software is creative.

If I gave you guidelines to write a story, who is the creative one?

If I write a prompt for a short story and you write it, does that mean that I am creatively responsible for all of it?

Just read the article and to clarify - 

1) They did not win. 2nd place isn't winning.

2) The AI was not 'creative'. It was guided by 66 prompts. I would call Shen Yang creative - not the AI. 

3) In the future an AI might be truly creative, but we are not there yet.

If I gave you guidelines to write a story, who is the creative one?  If I write a prompt for a short story and you write it, does that mean that I am creatively responsible for all of it?

I'll say this. I'm wayyy more creative when I write in Word then using a typewriter. It just has a lot of little tools that help me express what I want to say easily, and I don't get bogged down in the process of putting words in the right place on the page.
