Any of you heard of this book "The Sovereign Individual"? I just bought it as i've heard a lot of how prescient & stunning in its accuracy is. Written in 97, Peter Thiel cites it as a core influence in his thinking. The authors predicted Osama Bin Laden as a threat to nation states. They also predicted cryptocurrencies / the advent of bitcoin (not how they work, but that they'll arise). If I had read this book when it was published, I would have paid attention to (and understood) the merits (and increasing value) of bitcoin long before it became mainstream. Incredible that they could see forward that clearly. There's a ton more - including the argument for the eventual dissolution of countries and nation states in their current form. The argument is that the advent of the internet fundamentally changes the dynamics that currently allow governments to operate as they are and that, in the future, governments will have to change their model in order to survive. The individual is now in charge, if they so chose, to leverage the internet and improve/protect their existing/future lifestyle. Many of their predictions are still playing out..... #The Book Club π
